Robert Rauschenberg: Photems
In his Photems (1981-91), Rauschenberg adopts the syntactical structure of the totem. They are photographic works: multiple photographs are joined without margins or separations and mounted on large vertical aluminum panels. Although taken at different times and locations, they are all self-complimentary urban images. The fragmented image structure does not allow for an exact reading according to logic.
